For many years the Seagull Centre has been supporting the establishment of a CRRC in Whangamata alongside Whanagmatā Resource Recovery Trust. WRRT runs a collection at the local Sunday Market collecting items, such as;

  • E-waste

  • Plastic bottle lids

  • Batteries

  • Liquid paper board containers

  • Clean polystyrene

These items are sent to the Seagull Centre Thames for processing and recycling.

Whilst the Mercury Bay Resource Recovery Centre Trust - known as Wāhi Tukurua awaits the construction of their new facility that is due to open in the next 12 months, they have been been actively running a number of recycling initiatives over the last 5 years.

These include e-waste drives, battery drives, clean up days, Every Bite and their largest campaign Single Use Cup (SUC) Free Whitianga.

Items are brought over to the Seagull Centre Thames for processing and recycling.

They hope to see a fit for purpose built and running by the end of 2025, so keep an eye on their website and socials for more details.

The Hauraki Reuse and Repair Centre is located in Paeroa and has been running for 3years. Over the years the Seagull Centre has provided governance and operational support, and we continue to do so as needed.

The Tairua Drop Off site was established at the end of 2023 at the Tairua transfer station, and the Pauanui Drop Off site was opened early 2024 and located at the Pauanui transfer station.

Both sites are run by Seagull Centre staff and collect items from the community to be brought back to the Seagull Centre in Thames for processing.

To see what items are accepted check out our Drop off page.

During 2024 the Seagull Centre, in partnership with the Chrome Collective, was instrumental in the establishment of a reusable goods drop off facility at the Katikati Resource Recovery Centre.

Our role was to establish pathways for products that were received to allow the Chrome Collective the time and space to develop a retail operation. After six months the Chrome Collective had successfully established a small shop and the Seagull Centre was able to withdraw its support - mission accomplished.
